NONGPOH: The two-day office picketing called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC), a conglomeration of four frontal NGOs of Ri-Bhoi district begins from today. This has been called in protest against the adamant attitude of the State Government to revoke order of inclusion of the Marngar Community as the Bhoi Schedule Tribe.

General secretary of the JAC David Kharnaior informed that the two day office picketing called by the JAC will start from the February 14 as announced during the public meeting held on February 7 last at Iewmawlong.

He also informed that the government is yet to take any initiative on the demand of the JAC.

The JAC has sought full cooperation from the people of the Ri-Bhoi district and also the government employees in this regard as the inclusion of this Community as the Bhoi Tribe will badly affect the coming generation of the Khasis in the reservation policy.

Meanwhile, in view of the office picketing called by the JAC in Ri-Bhoi, the Additional Magistrate of Ri-Bhoi sistrict has imposed section 144 CrPC prohibiting gathering of more than five persons in one place. It also prohibits disturbing free movement of government employees and carrying of any weapon.
