‘Discover Jaintia’ festival kicks off

JOWAI: The 6th Discover Jaintia- a tourism festival organised by the Jaintia Tourism and Enviroment Society was flagged off on Tuesday from Marian Ground with colourful traditional dress show and tableau display followed by procession to Tpep Pale Ground for the inauguration of the festival.

Discover Jaintia is oraganised annually with a motive to boost tourism industy in Jaintia Hills District- a District which is rich in mineral resources.

The attraction of the day was vintage cars and bike rally right from Kiang Nangbah Government College to Tpep Pale Gound.

The Festival was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills T.Dkhar IAS at Tpep Pale Ground.

Other speakers were S.F Lyngdoh Project Manager MRDS LIF Com, Jowai organising partner of the Jaintia Spices festival, S.K Lato, Gopal Sharma, Director, Hill Cement (representative on behalf of Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturer’s Association.

The Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturer’s Association generously contributed Rs 2,00,000 for the Discover Jaintia festival.

Other highlight of the day included cultural dance and musical night at Tpep pale. Discover Jaintia 2012 is jointly sponsored by Meghalaya Tourism & District Administration, Meghalaya Rural Development Society LIF Com Jowai, All Jaintia Cement Manufacturer’s Association, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank, State Bank Of India, NABARD, Department of sports & Youth Affairs .

Vice President, JTES P. Lyngdoh, delivered the welcomed address while J.M Pohsngap Member JTES the vote of thanks.
