TURA:The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Shillong, is organizing a State Level Khadi Gramodyog Exhibition at Police Parade Ground, Tura from February 15 to 29.
KVIC, a statutory body created by an Act of Parliament is implementing various schemes in the rural areas of the country to generate more employment opportunities by promoting khadi and micro level industries.
Speaking at the inaugural function here on Wednesday State Director, KVIC S.B. Mane said that the aim of the exhibition is to provide marketing support to khadi and small scale industries besides generating employment opportunities to youth.
He said that KVIC provides the necessary infrastructure to entrepreneurs in the target group of 18 to 35 years under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme.
He informed that for the first time in Garo Hills KVIC sent its first batch of entrepreneurs in Pottery to Mumbai who have successfully completed the training and another batch has been sent for Fibre Training. He appealed to the youth to make the optimum use of the schemes available with KVIC.
Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Tura, Pravin Bakshi speaking on the occasion said that Khadi is not a cloth but a concept born out of India’s struggle for independence, which also spreads the message of self-sufficiency and it was necessary to preserve the ideology.
Chief Guest, P.K. Sangma, Chief Executive Member, Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) said that the exhibition will encourage the youth to engage themselves in self employment and thus solve the problem of unemployment to a considerable extent.
