Admin, FKJGP crackdown on overloaded trucks

NONGSTOIN: The district authority of West Khasi Hills along with the members of FKJGP Mawshynrut Circle on Thursday conducted checking of overloaded truck plying from Shallang, Riangdo – Athiabari where many trucks carrying more than 24-25 tons were fined and the coal unloaded.

The order for checking the overloaded trucks comes after the FKJGP demanded the Deputy Commissioner to re implement the order given by the Supreme Court as the condition of the road is worsening with overloaded trucks plying on the road.

FKJGP Mawshynrut circle president Arkhelos Diengngan told media that the checking of the overloaded trucks would continue till the truck drivers understood the Supreme Court’s order of 2005 banning overloading by trucks.

Arkhelos also appreciated the Deputy Commissioner for taking response regarding their demand to re implement the Supreme Court order, and also to send the magistrate and his team for checking the overloaded trucks.

Meanwhile the Khasi Student Union Mawshynrut circle will continue will their indefinite strike against overloaded trucks plying from Shallang, Riangdo to Athiabari.The KSU on Thursday blocked all the trucks plying from Shallang towards Riangdo and asked the drivers to go back to Shallang.
