SHILLONG: A general meeting of the Wageasi Surrounding Area Development Committee (WSADC) was held recently under the Chairmanship of Orith R Marak which was attended by 120 villages from Dainadubi to Rongjeng and Nongchram.

Seing the tragic condition of NH-62 which has affected the life of the people, the meeting resolved to form a pressure group to pressurize the District Administration of East Garo Hills to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict where it is clearly stated about carrying loads, informed the WSADC secretary KD Shira.

It also decided to empower the pressure group to form a high level committee to enquire the status of NH-62 through RTI since the public of the localities have witnessed a lot of discrepancies and anomalies in the construction of the road which is the lifeline of East and South Garo Hills.

The meeting also decided to pressure the government to shift the illegal checking point to the mining area of Nangal and Shallang or else the public will resort to democratic means or install indefinite road blockade or Dharna and decided to call the representatives of the pollution and environment department to check the standard of emission of smokes on the standing trucks at Depa Sarangma. Finally it is resolved that if no action is initiated the public would undertake democratic revolution to remove the Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills and would also send a team to New Delhi to apprise the leaders of the happenings in East Garo Hills.
