JOWAI: A police complaint has been lodged against former HNLC chief, Julius Dorphang and his associates for allegedly assaulting coal labourers, drivers and forcibly taking away coal from a mine in Briwar area under Raliang Elaka.
A resident of Wapungskur, Testlang Rymbai, who owns a coal mine at Madan Briwar under Sumer Patorship in Raliang Elaka lodged the complaint against Dorphang and his associates with the Officer in-charge Saipung Police station copies of which were addressed to the Home Minister, the DGP, the SP and the Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner.
According to the complainant Dorphang along with his associates (Jialwis Paslein, Begin Paslein, Hosta Salahe, Haimon Mannar, Nidamon Chullet, Philip Tangliang and Hep Jyrwa – former HNLC cadre among others), numbering 15 to 20 and armed with deadly weapons trespassed into the Rymbai’s coal mine and chased away his manager and labourers and forcibly carried away a truckload of coal worth approximately Rs 90,000 on Wednesday.
The complainant also claimed that Dorphang and his associates again trespassed into the coal mine on Thursday and forcibly carried away two truckloads of coal worth Rs 1,80,000 after assaulting Rymbai’s drivers Riwan Sungoh and Maishan Sungoh. Riwan suffered grievous injuries and his whereabouts were unknown.
It was also alleged that Dorphang and his accomplices caused extensive damage to the coal mine and also carried away tools and machineries from the coal mine worth Rs 2o lakh.
Claiming that these surrendered HNLC men were in possession of lethal weapons, Rymbai also raised fears about his safety in the police complaint.
The coal mine owner requested the concerned authority to immediately arrest Dorphang and his associates and to seize all the coal and equipments forcibly carried away by him from the coal mine.
