SHILLONG: In a setback for football lovers of the State, Ar-Hima FC moved further away from qualifying for the final round of the 2nd Division I-League after losing to current leaders United Sikkim 0-2 in a crucial match in the preliminary round played at Silchar on Friday.
Both the goals came in the second half of the match.
Former Indian striker Bhaichung Bhutia opened the scores for United Sikkim in the 70th minute. The Sikkim outfit sealed the match in the 85th minute when its midfielder Quinton Jacobs scored the second goal for his team. With this victory, United Sikkim have made it to the final round of the League.
The Shillong outfit is scheduled to lock horns with Southern Samity, Kolkata on Sunday. Ar-Hima’s prospects of qualifying for the final round now depends on a win against the Kolkata outfit on Sunday and either a draw or a loss for the Aizawl XI team which take on United Sikkim on Monday. At present, Ar-Hima are in third place with 8 points from their five outings. United Sikkim leads the table with 13 points while Aizawl are on second place with 10 points.
