2nd Nyishi-Bodo Accord signed

 

Itanagar: The second Nyishi-Bodo Accord was recently signed here in East Kameng district for bringing peace in the boundary areas between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam that are home to two large ethnic tribes, Bodos and Nyishis.

The signing of the accord on Thursday was preceded by a ‘core group discussion’ and a public meeting between members of the Nyishi Elite Society (NES), Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) and All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on the same day, a communiqué said here today. Presided over by NES president Bengia Tolum, the meeting concluded with the bilateral resolution to bring peace and harmony in the boundary areas. (PTI)

Kidnapped timber merchant killed

Kohima: A timber merchant, who was abducted from his Dimapur residence by some unidentified people, was found dead at a place near here, police said on Saturday. Vikugha Zhimomi (30) was abducted by two unidentified persons on February 15 and his dead body was found at Vihoto area along Dimapur-Jalukie road yesterday. The body, bearing bullet marks on the head, was first spotted by some farmers of the village and they informed the police. According to police, it is a case of abduction for ransom because the kidnappers had reportedly asked the victim to arrange money through his friends in the town. Police said the abductors also took away a laptop and three mobile handsets from the victim’s residence. (PTI)

School boy run over by train

Kohima: A teenaged boy was killed when the Dimapur bound Kamakya-Dibrugarh Express hit him at Thahekhu Block-7 railway crossing on Friday. Police said Nilopu V.Achumi, a class 10 student, might not have heard the train coming as there was loud noise of a stone-crushing machine nearby. The boy reportedly tried to jump across the tracks when he saw the train speeding towards him. He was dragged a few metres along the rails, police added. (UNI)
