SHILLONG: The lone KHNAM MDC Adelbert Nongrum has withdrawn support from the Congress-led Executive Committee (EC) in the KHADC.
In a letter to the KHADC CEM Pyngshngain N Syiem on Monday, Nongrum said that he decided to withdraw support from the EC to maintain “the identity of KHNAM”.
When contacted, KHADC CEM said he was yet to accept the resignation of Nongrum.
“But I do not feel it is appropriate for me to ask him to reconsider his decision. I fully respect his decision to sit in the Opposition,” Syiem said.
It may be mentioned that before the merger of KHNAM with the UDP, there are three MDCs of KHNAM in the Council.
Latiplang Kharkongor and James Ban Basaiawmoit are the two other MDCs of the party.
Nongrum, who was against the merger, maintained the KHNAM identity. Till date the KHADC had no Opposition. But with Nongrum withdrawing support from the EC, the Opposition will open its account in the council. The three-day session of the KHADC would start from Tuesday
