SHILLONG: KHADC Executive Member in charge Trade, Antonio War has clarified that the decision to assign the Assistant Licensing Officers (ALOs) to sign the trading license was taken after issuing of an Executive Order with the consent of the KHADC CEM Pyngshngain N Syiem and Deputy CEM Remington Pyngrope.
While maintaining that this decision to reassign responsibilities was taken to streamline the Trade department, he hoped that there would be vast improvement in the delivery system of the department since one ALO is to cater to each of the three districts of Ri-Bhoi, West Khasi Hills and East Khasi Hills. “It is humanly impossible for a Licensing Officer to do full justice to his job since he has also to look after the Labour department. But after this reshuffle, the LO is able to give full concentration to the Labour department which is another very important department,” he said.
When asked if they are contemplating to bring an amendment to the United Khasi Jaintia Hills District (Trading by Non-Tribals) Regulation, 1959, he said that the Executive Committee would examine the need to amend the Act.
