Assam students taken ill after Phaleria tablets administered
Guwahati: More than 40 students of a primary school in Mukalmuwa in lower Assam’s Nalbari district were taken ill on Monday after being reportedly administered Phaleria tablets provided by the state Health department. Local reports said the students of No-dia primary school were administered the tablets by ASHA workers at about 1000 hours on Monday morning. The tablets were provided to the ASHA workers by the state Health department. The students started to fell ill immediately after, complaining of dizziness, vomiting and stomach ache. Health department officials at district headquarter Nalbari were informed but they arrived late at the scene. Local MLA and former minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman, who was a medical practitioner, reached the scene and provided treatment to the students before the medical teams arrived. The condition of the students were stated to be stable and they were sent home after treatment at the school premises itself. The Health department is likely to institute an enquiry into the incident. (UNI)
Tripura govt not to oppose CBI inquiry into Saha murder case
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Monday said the state government would not oppose CBI inquiry into the murder of Papai Saha here last year. Replying to a question by Leader of Opposition Ratan Lal Nath, Sarkar, who also holds charge of the Home department, said, “The matter is being investigated by CID who has also filed charge sheet in a court.” “If there is no legal problem then we have no objection in referring the matter (Saha murder case) to the CBI for further investigation,” he added. Saha was killed by a bullet on July 11 when Congress workers fought a pitch battle with the police. The Congress had claimed that Saha was killed by a unruly jawan of Tripura State Rifles (TSR). The CID charge sheet, however, found one local youth was involved in the murder. (PTI)
Forest fire rages in Nagaland’s famous Dzukou Valley
Kohima: A fire that broke out at the Dzukuo Valley, a famous tourist spot in Nagaland, on Saturday last, continues to rage causing extensive damage to the ecological hotspot. Official sources said the fire in the valley, which falls under Kohima district, was spotted by one of the officers of the Forest Department on Saturday and the matter reported forthwith. A team, comprising personnel from the forest department, police and district administration, has rushed up to the site in the valley to access the situation and possible means of dousing the fire, he informed, adding more details will be available only after their return. However, the cause of the fire as well as extent of damage is yet to be ascertained, he stated. (UNI)
