TURA: Meghalaya chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma has said that work for the Ganol hydel project to supply electricity for Tura is likely to begin from April and blamed previous government of MPA for delay in execution of work.

During media interaction at Tura circuit house a question was raised as to why Ganol hydel project meant to supply electricity for Tura has not started even though foundation was raised in 2007

.“The project had to be revived again because in 2008 when a new government took over they delayed the project for well over a year because some thought let us disown this baby which belongs to another government. It did a lot of damage to the state,” Dr Mukul Sangma said.

Expressing concern over such a delay the chief minister said costs escalation cannot be ruled out due to such a long delay and informed that fresh bidding of tenders had to be taken up and by March end the process would be completed.

He also revealed it would take nothing short of 36 months for completion of the project and funds are already available with the MeECL through the NLCPR fund.
