SHILLONG: National Science Day was celebrated in the city in honor of the great scientist of the country Dr Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman who discovered the Raman Effect which is the greatest discovery of nuclear physical sciences.
Joining the rest of the country, Atomic Mineral Directorate for Exploration and Research department of Atomic Energy, Government of India organized a science exhibition for school children at the office of the Survey of India here on Tuesday.
“This day is celebrated with an aim to cultivate the scientific improvement and to develop further scientific and technological caliber among the people at large specifically to the schools and college students of the country”, Regional Director Atomic Mineral Directorate for Exploration and Research department of Atomic Energy, Government of India GB Joshi said.
Joshi informed that the day is celebrated by the country to honor the great physicist and scientist who on February 28, 1927 discovered the Raman Effect.
