Tripura has no objection to CBI probe for ‘Aadhaar’

AGARTALA: The Tripura government has no objection to a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the spending of central funds for Aadhaar scheme, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar told the Assembly on Thursday.

Replying to a question asked by Leader of Opposition Ratan Lal Nath, Sarkar said the state government had no objection in requesting the CBI to investigate the alleged irregularities in implementation of the Aadhar scheme.

Earlier, replying to the queries raised by Nath, Rural Development Minister Jitendra Chowdhury told the House that no unlawful activity was found in the spending of Rs 15 crore, allocated by the central government for implementing the scheme. Nath, however, alleged that a scam of Rs 8 lakh was involved in the Aadhar scheme implementation. (PTI)

Nagaland website awarded by President

KOHIMA: An website on the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland was awarded the prestigious National Tourism Award by President Pratibha Patil at a well attended function in New Delhi on Wednesday.

According to sources the website won the special prize in the category ‘Most Innovative use of Information Technology and Best website promoting India Tourism’.

The hornbillfestival.com.’s founder Dr Yan Murry and Senior Manager, Operations, Mhathung Murry received the award from the president.

Union Minister for Tourism Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister of State for Tourism Sultan Ahmed and Union Tourism Secretary R H Khwaja and several Government bureaucrats were present at the award function among others.

The hornbillfestival.com has been catering to the tourists’ needs since 2008. The management has provided various online services which have made it convenient for tourists to visit Hornbill festival. The website received visitors from 85 countries in 2011. (UNI)

Joint counter-terror exercises

AIZAWL: Learning from each other’s experience of tackling insurgents and terrorism, Indian and Indonesian armies on Thursday concluded their week-long joint drills in Mizoram.

The first-ever platoon-level joint training exercise between the two armies — codenamed ‘Exercise Garuda Shakti’– was held at Mizoram-based Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS). It was conducted in two parts- indoor training sessions and outdoor validation drills codenamed Chakravyu in Mizoram’s Lushai Hills, army officials said today. Troops from Indonesian National Army were led by Lt Col Gatot Heru Puana of KOSTRAD (Indonesian Army’s Strategic Reserve Command), while men from 19 Madras Regiment, currently deployed in counter terrorism operations in the northeast sector, comprised the Indian side.
