SHILLONG: The State Government is contemplating to upgrade the police outpost at Kyrshai near Langpih to a police station within two months.
“We are planning to upgrade the police outpost at Kyrshai to a full-fledged police station in two months’ time,” Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh assured a delegation led by HSPDP supremo Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, party MDCs along with members of the KSU Kyrshai Area unit who met him on Friday.
He also denied that the Government had any plans of shifting the police outpost.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh, who is also in charge of the PWD, also assured the delegation that construction of the Nongstoin-Rambrai-Kyrshai road would begin at the earliest.
“He (Lygdoh) has assured us that the construction of road which has been sanctioned under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme (SARDP) will start soon and construction of the shopping stalls at Langpih market would also go ahead,” the HSPDP supremo told reporters soon after the meeting. KSU Kyrshai Area president Pynskhem Nongshlong mentioned that the police outpost at Kyrshai is strategic since the area is situated far away from Nongstoin, the district headquarters of West Khasi Hills.
“The people of the area have been facing untold problems due to encroachment by Assam Police,” the KSU leader added.
It may be mentioned that on June 21, 2010 a memorandum was submitted to the State Government to upgrade the Kyrshai police outpost into a full-fledged police station.
Kyrshai area, about 75 km from Nongstoin, consists of 17 villages bordering Assam.
