Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum (JNSM), considered the best in Asia in indigenous collections, has lost two antique daos in a midnight burglary.

The miscreants broke into the complex here to strip it off its precious treasure on Saturday night, official sources said here on Monday.

The incident first came to the notice by a museum sweeper around 9 am on Sunday. The sweeper then reported it to JNSM in-charge Batem Pertin, deputy director (Museum & archives) of cultural affairs department (CAD).

CAD secretary Indira Mallo Jain, director Tage Tada and other officers arrived soon to take stock of the situation followed by a police team and finger print experts.

During preliminary enquiry it was found that the miscreants took away two antique local daos- Orok in Nyishi and Yoksa in Adi, both worth a lakh each.

Superintendent of Police Hibu Tamang said it was a precisely planned theft and a repetition of a 2007 incident when a costly Nyishi weapon was stolen.

He said the chowkidar, who was not on duty on Saturday, had been taken into custody for interrogation.

An FIR had been filed in this connection. (UNI)
