One attacked by miscreants near Jhalupara parking lot

 SHILLONG: Just hours after the Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh inspected the truck parking lot at Jhalupara to check the illegal activities, one 29 year old old businessman, Jivan Dhan Gurung (Jigme) was attacked by some miscreants at Mahavira park, Jhalupara point on Tuesday.

The 29 year old was attacked at 11 pm while he was waiting to fetch a friend at Jhalupara point who was coming from Guwahati.

Talking to media persons about the incident, Jivan Dhan Gurung said, “ I was waiting for my friend when a milkman came to me for help saying some miscreants were trying to rob me.”

“Then I saw five young boys coming from the place where the trucks are parked. I asked the man to go. But soon after these boys came and charged me with a knife,” Gurung added.Gurung, however managed to nab one of the miscreants identified as Ravi Rai (25), a resident of Mawbah (Barapathar), whereas four others managed to flee the scene.

Interestingly, the incident took place just hours after Urban Affairs Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh paid a surprise visit to the area and said “Everything looks normal.”

Additional Superintendent of Police (crime), Vivek Syiem said, while speaking to media persons said that the matter is still under investigation adding that Jhalupara area has become a major concern for the police.

According to Syiem, the State police has alerted the headmen of different localities in the area and adjacent areas and asked the tenants residing in the area to give a bio-data of themselves, to their respective headmen so that police can verify and it would be easier to nab the culprits.

“We (police) are trying to zero down persons having a bad record in the area,”he told reporters.
