Borsora-based NGO closes down DMR office

 NONGSTOIN: Borsora based NGO Meghalaya Mine Owners & Exporters Association (MMOEA) of West Khasi Hills Distinct recently closed down the office of Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR) at Borsora.

The members of MMOEA under the leadership of one Nassar Singh Marwein gheraoed and threatened the office staff of DMR. But the office staff resisted in moving away from the office and in the ensuing act the incident turned violent which was subdued by the intervention of the Borsora police out post.

Following the closure of the office of DMR, the members of MMOEA started collecting vehicles tax at Borsora, Chergaon and Bagli point of West Khasi Hills district.The local businessmen are now at a dilemma as to whether the MMOEA is the government authorized agency to collect the tax or the DMR.
