SHILLONG: While expressing disappointment over the ruthless damaging of BSNL cable fibres along the highways by the road widening agencies, the General Manager Telecom District of Meghalaya George S Marshall has called upon the concerned authorities to realize the importance of these channels of communications.

Lamenting on the difficulties faced by BSNL at GMTD office here on Tuesday, Marshall said “We are the end receivers, complaints flow and pressure doubles but people don’t realize that we are going through a rough time maintaining these cables”.

He mentioned that every time, they resolve the problem, the same thing is repeated which is damage done to the cable fibres which takes time to repair resulting to low network connection.

Citing that cable fibres prove helpful in times of emergencies; Marshall said “If not everyday, at least the agencies have to be aware of the importance of the fibres in time of need”. “We have half a dozen services and destruction of these can hamper the flow of communication arousing anger amongst customers”, the GMTD added. Marshall also pointed out that unlike in Meghalaya and India as a whole; the roads in USA are being cut leaving enough space for the cables to be laid with an intension to protect these optical fibres from getting damaged.
