‘Meghalaya not a place to see but to feel’

 SHILLONG: As art imitates life so it is befitting for any society to look at art as a part of life which needs to be encouraged, Deputy Chief Minister BM Lanong said adding “The society is incomplete without accepting this aspect of life”.

Lanong was addressing a five-day 9th National Art Festival organized by the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi at Hotel Polo Towers, Shillong here on Tuesday.

Elaborating on the above statement, Lanong said art is closely associated with history and traditions. “Therefore, Art needs to be encouraged and supported”, he said.

“Khasi culture is rich in folklores. Every place in Meghalaya has a history and some best caves attract cavers from all round the globe who wouldn’t leave the state without exploring its beauty,” Lanong.

Encouraging the artistes, Lanong said, “Meghalaya is not a place to see but instead it’s a place to feel. A must place for any art lover ”, the Deputy Chief Minister said.

Lalit Kala Akademi is one of the national institutions that focus on the field of visual fine arts, such as painting, sculpture, graphics, photography, ceramics and other art forms.

Scholarships and Awards are also given to artists for outstanding contribution in the field of art, and infrastructural facilities are provided to the artists.

More than 45 participants from all over the country took part in the Festival.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Former Home Minister, RG Lyngdoh and Dr. US Tiwari, Advisor Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre.
