AGARTALA: Tripura Opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath continued to hammering Chief Minister Manik Sakar for his inclusion in the to-be-honored list for his ‘personnel’ contribution to the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.

Along with the Chief Minister, two more luminaries- former Chief Minister Sachindra Lal Singha and Kirit Bikram Manikya Bahadur, last kind of Tripura – all from the state will be honoured at a gala celebration in Dhaka on March 27.

According to Nath, the Congress had welcomed the move of inviting both Sachindra Lal Singha and Kirit Bikram Manikya Bahadur for their unspeakable contribution to the rendering logistic support to the Bangladeshi refugees in the hours of crisis.

“The Chief Minister, who was then a leader CPM student wing SFI did nothing in the Bangladesh Liberation War. We would have no say if he is being invited to receive the honour on behalf of the people of Tripura but that is not the case,” he pointed out.

As far my knowledge goes, Sarkar was invited for his personnel contribution to the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 leading to creation of a sovereign country- Bangladesh, he said.

Giving example on how history was being distorted once Sarkar took the charge of Chief Minister, Nath alleged that even at the historic civic reception to visiting Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Assam Rifle Ground in January this year, Chief Minister did not mention the contribution of the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and ex Chief Minister late Sachindra Lal Singha.

“The very fact is that the duo did lot to liberate Bangladesh from Pakistan Army. Unfortunately, they are being ignored in the Marxist rule that had opposed the Indiraji’s move to support Mukti Bahini (Bangladesh Army),” he added.

In spite of the high voltage war of words, the Chief Minister will receive the honour in Dhaka on March 27 next, said Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury here on Tuesday.

“They are lowing down the self-esteem of the state and also the entire country by opposing the Bangladesh government move. The list that included the Chief Minister was prepared by Bangladesh government not Tripura government,” he said.
