SHILLONG: The State Government has decided to increase the honorarium of the pre-primary aided school teachers in the State to Rs 6000 per month from April next.
“We have taken this decision after examining that pre-primary school teachers are getting an honorarium which is lesser than the minimum wages fixed by the Government,” Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said while replying to the budget discussion in the Assembly on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma disclosed in the Assembly on Wednesday that the Government had received a letter from the Union Finance Ministry giving green signal to funding of Asian Development Bank (ADB) for making an investment in the Education and Health sector.
“We would like to increase the training facilities of the teachers all across the State by utilizing the ADB funding. We would be looking to bridge the infrastructure gap in the Government-run educational institutions. We would also be allocating funds through ADB funding for construction of building for colleges and schools,” Dr Mukul said.
He also said that the Government would also be using the ADB funding for improvement of the health care facilities in the State.
Referring to creation of the medical college in Shillong, he informed that 75 firms had investment under the PPP mode. “We would like to finalize this matter at the earliest,” the Chief Minister said.
He also informed that the government was working on sealing the land deal for construction of the Government medical college in Tura.
He informed that the government is also contemplating to set up nursing colleges in the State.
While maintaining that the Government is committed to check the influx problem, he said that the government would appoint 37 labour inspectors and other attached staffs in the different blocks within March this year.
“We are also planning to come up with a separate Anti-Infiltration Directorate to check the problem of influx,” he said.
