I-T dept seizes Rs 6 cr from city businessman

SHILLONG: The Income Tax (Investigation Wing), North Eastern Region, Guwahati has seized around Rs 6 crore (unaccounted money) during raids in the offices and business premises of renowned city-based businessman Hanumanbux Umaduttt.

Informing this here on Thursday, an IT source said the raids were conducted in four business places of Hanumanbux Umadutt Group of Industries and Businesses.

The sources informed simultaneous raids were conducted in business premises of the Group located at Guwahati, Shillong, Silchar, Jaintia Hills on Wednesday morning.

Besides this, the factory and city offices of JUD Cement Pvt. Ltd. (Best Cement), Jaintia Coke Pvt. Ltd. Of Adarsh Kumar Jhunjhunwala & Group and all its Directors establishments were also raided, said the IT source.

Both the companies are owned by Adarsh Jhunjunwala, who is facing charges of tax evasion, which, according to IT sources, may run into several lakhs of rupees.
