SHILLONG: In a bid to stop cyber crimes, the State Government is coming up with some stringent measures for cyber café owners of the State.

Talking to The Shillong Times here on Thursday, Director General of police (DGP) N Ramachandran said, “The State Government will issue some guidelines for cyber café owners which will help police in checking cyber crimes.”

Earlier, the State police had issued directives to cyber café owners who now have to seek identification proof from every user before they log in. Besides, they have also been asked to maintain log books with details of the users on a daily basis.

According to Ramachandran, the Government is currently formulating the guidelines.

Unlike other places in the country where every user has to produce identity proofs before they log in, the same is not followed by some cyber cafes in the State.

Reacting to a query about the cyber cafés who are yet to adhere to police directives, he said the police are continuously checking the cyber cafes in the city.
