Truck driver assaulted

 SHILLONG: A truck driver on Sunday evening got into a heated altercation with traffic cops and some people who were travelling in a red sumo with a tag ‘police’at Rilbong junction.

Police said the altercation took place as the truck driver was rushing on the busy road and did not respond to their pleas to stop the vehicle.

According to eye witnesses, the truck was stopped by the Red Sumo at the junction after which a gentleman came out from the Sumo and asked the truck driver to park the vehicle on the roadside. ‘‘The driver wanted to leave the scene, but the gentleman used filthy language against the driver. and then got into the vehicle and slapped the truck driver ,” an eye witness said.

Some traffic cops who were manning the traffic jumped into action and pushed the truck driver. The on-lookers gathered in the area were also surprised at the behavior of the police personnelWhen contacted, additional Superintendent of police (traffic) Herbert Lyngdoh said that the truck driver was rushing and he did not respond to the directives of traffic personnel.

“They were taken to police station and the matter has been solved,” Lyngdoh added.
