SHILLONG: Tura is all set to get a modern state-of-the-art Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT), which is expected to reduce the traffic congestion in the second largest town of the State.
Principal Secretary Urban Affairs, P Naik, informed The Shillong Times that the Central Government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 45 crore with 10 per cent lump sum for the ISBT project, which would accommodate fifty buses plying to and from all corners of the State.
According to Naik, land acquisition would not be an issue since the proposed ISBT would be constructed on a plot of land belonging to the Veterinary department.
The official also stated that NBCC would implement the project, while adding that the project will be commissioned in three years from the date of allotment.
On the proposed ISBT at Mawiong in outskirts of Shillong, Naik informed that the project is in its initial stage.
It may be mentioned that the Planning Commission had approved construction of an ISBT and an Inter State Truck Terminus (ISTT) at Mawiong and Sumer respectively.
The ISTB and the ISTT would be constructed at costs of Rs 48.31 crore and Rs 26 crore respectively.
“We expect that the projects would take off within the next three months,” Naik added.
