SHILLONG: As many as 35 domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders were seized on Tuesday during simultaneous raids in some commercial establishments in and around Shillong.
The raids were conducted following information that domestic LPG cylinders were being misused for commercial purpose.
Rs 2,500 was collected as fine during the raid, conducted by a team of five Executive Magistrates, Deputy Manager (LPG-S), IOC, Shillong. Police personnel and Supply department officials, East Khasi Hills also accompanied the team.
Of the 35 cylinders, 6 were seized from Polo market area, 4 from Laitumkhrah, 12 cylinders from Umpling-Rynjah, 5 from Laban and 8 from Iewduh.
According to Sanjay Goyal, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, such raid would continue in future and warned that the action may not confine only to imposition of fines.
“There is a provision of arrest under the Essential Commodities Act and the administration would not hesitate to arrest persons involved in such acts,” Deputy Commissioner added.
He also directed the LPG agencies to ensure that there is no black marketing of domestic LPG cylinders.
