NECCC discusses inter-state boundary issues

Nongpoh: In an interesting development to the long-pending boundary dispute between Meghalaya and Assam, leaders of the North East Congress Coordination Committee (NECCC) met at the official residence of the Assam Chief Minister at Khanapara to deliberate on the vexed issue pertaining to the two neighbouring states governed by the Congress.

The meeting, which lasted for about 45 minutes, was attended by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, former Maharashtra Governor and NECCC adviser SC Jamir and Chief Advisor to the State Government and NECCC Chairman DD Lapang.

Later, Lapang informed media persons that the meeting decided that the NECCC would take up the initiative to settle the long-pending boundary dispute plaguing various states of the region besides finding amicable solutions to insurgency-related issues in the region.

He also informed that, the NECCC has decided to organise a meeting at Delhi and seek the participation of AICC supremo and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and all the chief ministers of the region to dwell at length on the boundary issues, developmental and law and orders problems pertaining to the North Eastern region.
