SHILLONG: The Stage is set for the 2013 Assembly polls. All parties including the Congress have stated their campaign for the elections scheduled to take place early next year.
Keeping in view the upcoming elections, the two AICC in charge for Meghalaya Dhaniram Shandil and Sanjay Bapna on Saturday stated that the party is all set and prepared for the upcoming elections MLA elections.
The two leaders were full of praise for the MUA government led by the Congress while adding that the infrastructure in the state has improved under the leadership of the Congress Government.
“We feel the state government is doing a very good job as many other development missions are being undertaken by the state government apart from central flagship programmes,” AICC leader Sanjay Bapna told reporters here on Saturday.
Reacting to a query about the present MUA being a coalition government and when pointed out that acknowledgement must be given to the coalition partners as well, Bapna said “ The major part of the development has come from the Congress.”
According to AICC leaders, the party will also bring out a report in April which will highlight the achievements of the present MUA government.
During their visit to Shillong, the duo also held meetings with party workers to plan the strategies for the upcoming elections. The Congress party workers will be fanning out to the Blocks to strengthen the party.
The two AICC Secretaries in charge of Meghalaya also informed that the High Command would release the party list between September and December.
The NCP on the other hand has already announced their first and second list of candidates who will be contesting the elections.
The AICC officials also met Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president Friday Lyngdoh, who is unwell.
Reacting to a query about the about any changes in the MPCC, Sanjay Bapna said, “He has communicated something to us and we will take up the matter with the High Command.”
It may be mentioned that the Congress party has received major success in Assam and Manipur Assembly elections while it got a drubbing in Uttar Pradesh.
