NONGPOH: Angered over the pathetic attitude of the government to resolve the water crisis in Nongpoh Township, the Dorbar Shnong Nongpoh has decided to issue a one week ultimatum to the Government for addressing the issue or else be ready for drastic action.

The water crisis begun after the commencement of the four lane project as the water pipelines supplying water to various households were uprooted due to digging of roads and earth cutting required for the widening of roads.

Informing this to The Shillong Times, Nongpoh Proper Rangbah Shnong Bull Lyngdoh said that they have decided to issue the ultimatum to the Government as the situation has worsened and local residents are seen engaging in quarrel over buckets of water.

“The representative of the Dorbar Shnong also approached the PHE department on the matter, but the department is engaging in blame game with Ramky Infrastructure over the matter and thus shying away from their responsibilities”, Lyngdoh said.

The Dorbar Shnong also met the local MLA in this regard who instructed the Ri-Bhoi District Deputy Commissioner to hold a meeting with various departments to solve the problem.

He also said that they have taken up the matter with the Ri Bhoi District Administration and a meeting was also held for addressing the issue but till date nothing has come up.

The Dorbar Shnong has given a week’s time to the Government to take immediate steps in providing water to the Nongpoh Town and if it fails in this regard the Dorbar Shnong along with the public will resort to agitational programmes.
