Govt to take over polytechnics

SHILLONG: The State Government has finally decided to take over the management of the two polytechnic institutes at Jowai and Tura.

The decision to take over the management of the two polytechnics came during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The Cabinet also took the decision to absorb the faculties and staffs of the two polytechnics as part of the takeover process.

The Cabinet decision is expected to provide relief to the students of the two polytechnics who have agitating over the State Government’s reluctance in taking over the management of the two polytechnic after the World Bank funding to the two institutions ended in 2007.

Informing about the Cabinet decision, Education Minister Prof RC Laloo said that the Cabinet has decided to absorb all the staffs of the two polytechnics except those who were appointed this yea
