NONGPOH: The Jirang Block Congress Committee (JBCC) on Wednesday questioned the intentions of Union Minister of State for Water Resources and Shillong Congress MP Vincent Pala for projecting a friend of his as a probable candidate of the Indian National Congress (INC) from Jirang constituency in the next Assembly election by surpassing the Block Congress which is contrary to the principles and ideologies of the Congress.
This was informed by the general secretary of the ad-hoc body of JBCC, Klan Lyngdoh, to this correspondent on Wednesday evening.
He also said that Pala has visited various parts of the constituency to project his friend as candidate, however at this juncture, “we do not want to name the person whom Pala is projecting.”
Lyngdoh wondered whether the Shillong MP is aware that the process of selection of candidate starts from the Block Level then the District Level, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and ultimately the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
The general secretary said that the JBCC body was dissolved on February 2 this year as the president WL Mynsong and vice-president C Dolloi of the dissolved Block had sought tickets from Jirang Constituency besides W Lapang and Lamboklang Mylliemngap.
He further informed that the body was dissolved to ensure free selection of candidates from the Block Level while adding they constituted the ad-hoc body on March 2 this year to look after the day to day affairs of the party.
Lyngdoh also informed that the election committee of the JBCC was constituted with A Wahlang as chairman, W Marwein as secretary, Klangsing Lyngdoh as assistant secretary and CB Syiem former Nongpoh MDC as ex officio member besides 11 others.
He asserted that they had recommended Mylliemngap as the party candidate from the Block level to the District Election Committee of Ri Bhoi District on January 11 this year.
