Centre allows Rs 30,000 crore for Mizoram flagship project

Aizawl: The Centre had allowed Rs 30,000 crore for implementation of the Mizoram government’s flagship programme called the New Land Use Policy in five years, Finance Minister H Liansailova said here on Friday.

The main objective of this project is major overhauling of the state economy through structural replacement of devastating shifting cultivation by introducing systematic method of occupation based on local resources and ingenuity of the local people.

The NLUP beneficiaries opted for different trades under horticulture, agriculture, industries and other sectors.

The 58 families who received two agarbati-making machines each belong to Aizawl North cluster.

Besides the machines that cost Rs 4500 each, the families were also provided with bamboos at Rs 5 a kg. Their products would be purchased by the government at Rs 25 a kg.

The Mizoram government’s Bamboo Development Agency had signed an agreement with N Ranga Rao & Sons, Mysore according to which Mizoram will supply 50 tonnes of square agarbati sticks to the company monthly. The company will also give necessary training to agarbati stick makers in Mizoram.

The Bamboo Development Agency, Mizoram had also signed similar MoU with ITC, Chennai for marketing the Mizoram-produced round agarbatti sticks. (UNI)
