Aizawl: Lalrozara, general secretary of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and secretary of the party’s media cell, was arrested on Friday and later released on bail, police said. Lalrozara was arrested after some Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) leaders filed an FIR in the Aizawl Police Station accusing the Congress leader of defaming them, SP (Aizawl), Lalbiakthanga Khiangte said. “We released him on bail as the case is a bailable one,” Khiangte said, adding police have already taken cognizance on the case from the court. MNF leaders, including former minister Liansuama and youth president P C Laltlansanga, submitted the FIR saying that the press release issued by the media cell of MPCC was a “lie and defamatory.” The Congress’ release alleged that some MNF leaders were having dinner on March 30 at the residence of Dr R Lalthangliana, MLA, to deliberate on how to “cover up” the mistakes done by the legislator on the controversy surrounding the reported lapse of SSA fund. MNF leaders said there was no dinner at the house of Lalthangliana that day and they did not go to the latter’s residence. (PTI)
