SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) organized a Civic Action Programme (CAP) on Friday in the border areas of Gumaghat, West Khasi Hills and Danger, East Khasi Hills, which was chaired by Inspector General (IG), Meghalaya Frontier Sudesh Kumar.
The CAP is conducted as a central plan to improve the quality of life and welfare of the border population, upgrade the existing infrastructure and create new avenues for bringing positive changes in the life of the border population.
On the occasion the BSF distributed important items, such as, wheel chairs, water storage tanks, dual desk bench, rice thrasher, water filters, football, cricket and volleyball kits, utensils, school stationeries etc. amounting to Rs5lakh. The IG described it as “key to prosperity”. “The distribution of the agricultural equipment will help people in improving their agricultural activities and will definitely help in improving economic prosperity.
Similarly up-gradation of school infrastructure will have lasting results as children are the future of the country,” said the IG. The IG had earlier personally visited the border areas and interacted with the villagers of bordering areas to ascertain their requirement and as per their wish list, items were selected and distributed.
Following the trend, this year the BSF has organized the CAP for the under-privileged border population residing in far-flung areas, too. The IG asked the border population to come forward with the valuable ideas which can be implemented for better border management and also for betterment of living standard of border population. He urged border population to share information about any stranger/unknown person visiting their villages.
