Kohima: The Deputy Election Commissioner of Election Commission (EC) Sudhir Tripathi has said the Commission is working towards ensuring an ‘error free’ electoral roll for the upcoming 2013 Assembly Elections in Nagaland.
Addressing a press conference at Kohima on Monday, Mr Tripathi said the term of the present Nagaland Assembly ends on March 26, 2013, for which the EC has started engaging the political parties of the State to set the process in motion for free and fair elections.
On complaints of difference between the electoral rolls and census data, he said some complaints had been received from political parties, while stating the Commission will be looking into it.
The exercise will be carried out through the Departmental agency that would conduct house to house survey, if need arises, he said, while assuring that ensuring error free electoral rolls is a priority for which, he said, there is still sufficient time.
Replying to a question on illegal immigrants in electoral rolls, Mr Tripathi said an important innovation has been made through the agency of Booth Level Officers (BLO) and the Commission will be carrying out a further round of summary revision so that the electoral rolls can be cleansed in such a manner that any names overlooked will be included while others that need to be deleted will be done so.
In this, he said he had asked the respective political parties to help the Commission by nominating their Booth Level agents so that they can exercise some kind of an overview with the official BLO of the department and together ensure that the electoral roll is error free and no hindrances take place.
