Constituency watch: Nongstoin

From Our Correspondent

NONGSTOIN: People of Nongstoin have come out openly in support of young and dynamic politician DH Marwein in place of the sitting MLA Hopingstone Lyngdoh.

In a meeting held at the PWD IB here on Thursday, the gathering unanimously decided to support candidature of Marwein from Nongstoin constituency in the Assembly election due in 2013.

They felt that the sitting MLA Lyngdoh in the last 20 years has failed to do anything significant as far as development of the constituency is concerned.

According to local people, since HS Lyngdoh does not belong to the area he failed to identify the problems of the area. They felt it was high time for the change of leadership.

It may be mentioned that Marwein in the last Assembly elections had secured second place after Hopingstone Lyngdoh. Since Marwein belongs to Nongstoin he will pose a tough challenge for the veteran politician.

Pariong MLA Dr Advisor Pariong is also to planning to contest from Nongstoin this time round. Dr Pariong, who is the general secretary of the HSPDP’s West Khasi Hills unit, is eying Congress ticket, sources said.

Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview, Hopingstone Lyngdoh claimed that he would come out successful this time also.

“Marwein is the only candidate who may pose a threat to me,” he said adding that if Marwein gets a Congress ticket, he may withdraw from the contest. .
