Poets from State take part in conference at South Africa

 SHILLONG: Four poetess from Meghalaya attended the 8th All India Poetess Conference (AIPC) which was held at Cape Town in South Africa from April 23 to 29 wherein they showcased Meghalaya with a traditional dance which highlighted the richness of the State’s culture.

Prof Streamlet Dkhar, Lucky Kharpuri, Silbi Passah and Phalguni Chakraborti were among the poetesses from different parts of the country who attended the conference which also included a talk on the upliftment of women in different parts of the world.

Prof Streamlet Dkhar, the leader of the party from the North East spoke at length about the richness of the Khasi culture and about the states of North East. She also elaborated that language binds people and this happens when works of artists are translated into different languages thereby promoting national integration .

During the conference, three books were released by three poets of the state—‘Na Ki Sawkun ka Mariang’ by Prof Streamlet Dkhar, ‘Ki Syrwet ba la Lumlang’ by Lucky Kharpuri and ‘Ka Jingshai ki Kynthei Mynta’ by Silbi Passah.
