SHILLONG: Use of tinted glasses or black films on wind shields of vehicles would be banned in the State from Monday next, following a Supreme Court directive in this regard.

A senior police official on Wednesday informed that following the orders of the apex court, the State Traffic department will come down hard on people who violate the law from Monday onwards.

“Offenders and violators will be penalized under Rule 92 and 100 of the Central Motor Vehicle (CMV) Act,” he said.

The official said, “Any use of additional material or film on the glass to curtail the Visual Light Transmission (VLT) is banned.”

Initially the police will start its move by removing all black or tinted glasses from the cars followed by imposing fines on violators.
