Reopening of border haats at Pynursla demanded

 SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee Demand Committee (JACDC) has asked the government to re-open four more border haats at Pynursla area which are located all along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

“We have apprised the government of the need to re-open the border haats in this area keeping in mind the livelihood of the people and the benefits that comes along with it”, West Khonglam, Chairman JACDC told reporters here on Thursday.

In their meeting with the chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma, Khonglam said that they have asked the chief minister to review the border haats at Lyngkhat, Nongjri, Dear Valley and Naya Bazar which has been closed since independence.

“The CM has informed us that he had to take up the matter with the High Commissioner of Bangladesh as this concerns both the countries”, Khonglam said.

The delegation hoped that the state government takes this issue seriously and apprise of the same to the central government as this concerns the livelihood of the people living in this area.
