SHILLONG: The GSU, East Garo Hills, has urged the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to look into the ‘power woes’ that have crippled the normal functioning in the District.

The Union apprised the Chairman, MeECL of the existing erratic and irregular power supply in Williamnagar and the entire Garo Hills.

“Frequent power cuts in and around Williamnagar town and in the entire Garo Hills region has become a regular phenomenon, compounding the problems of the people,” a GSU statement said.

The Union alleged that the MeECL employees resort to power cuts even at the ‘slightest sound of wind or raindrops’ while adding that many a times the departmental staff manning the emergency booth do not respond to the distress phone calls made by the public.

Regular power cuts also bring office functioning to a halt resulting in huge loss of working hours with the general public at the receiving end.
