Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has urged North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) to constitute a ‘Peace Committee’ to look into the contentious border row between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

AAPSU president Takam Tatung made this plea before the leadership of NESO during its coordination meeting at Guwahati on Tuesday, a communique said. Tatung said that the Supreme Court’s direction of maintaining status-quo between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh has been “ignored” repeatedly by Assam resulting in of “encroachment” of Arunachalees’ land.

He suggested the Peace Committee should visit those areas affected by border row to understand the problems being faced by the people and bring an amicable solution.

He further appealed the Assam Police not to target vehicles belonging to Arunachal. He alleged that it has almost become a habit of Assam Police to target vehicles with Arunachalee registration number plates, terrorizing the drivers and passengers.

The AAPSU president also called for opening up of a branch office of the CBSE in Arunachal Pradesh, stating that such a move would ease the difficulties being faced by thousands of students in the state.

He also appealed NESO to take up the issue of staple visa being issued by China to Arunachalee citizens. He said that time has come for China to recognize the truth.

Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to organize the ‘North East Inter Tribe Youth Festival’ by AAPSU at Itanagar from August 1 to 4 next, the communique added. (PTI)
