SHILLONG: PWD Minister (R) H D R Lyngdoh on Thursday inaugurated a three day Customized Training Programme on Contract Management and Quality Control Aspects for the contractors and young engineers of Public Works Department.
The three day training programme is being conducted by experts from the Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Lyngdoh said that roads and communication plays a vital role for development; upon which all other sectors are dependent and accordingly both at the State and Central level, the development of transport infrastructure is essential.
According to Lyngdoh, the construction industry is an important contributor to the growth of any economy and an active role of the local construction industry and the local contractor is vital.
Earlier, Chief Secretary W M S Pariat said that this training is especially designed to meet the requirements of the state which experiences difficulty in road construction due to hilly terrain, soil condition, heavy rainfall and less working season.Senior Government officials from the State PWD were also present on the occasion.
