SHILLONG: The vice-president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Chitrak Mitra and DP Wahlang, Commissioner-Secretary, Govt of Meghalaya, will inaugurate Shillong Cricket Academy at Cricket Ground Polo Ground on Saturday.
Mitra, who is also the member of New Areas Development programme (NADP) Committee of the BCCI reached Shillong on Friday on a two day visit of the State.
The senior official is on an on-the-spot assessment of the development of cricket in the state including evaluation of available infrastructure and requirements of additional infrastructure and meeting the gap between the two in a phased manner.
In a meeting with Meghalaya Cricket Association officials at MCA Office, Polo on Friday, he took stock of the actual position in different affiliated districts.
In the meeting the MCA officials led by Naba Bhattacharjee, Honorary Secretary, a detailed presentation was given on the existing position and the priority requirements necessary for promotion of cricket with emphasis on development of more grounds, necessity of ground equipments, indoor practice facilities, regular coaching camps for different age group, and exposure trips outside the State etc.
The report and analysis of Mitra shall be submitted to BCCI through NADP Committee for preparing an action plan to be implemented in a phased manner during next few years.
Bhattacharjee informed that focus shall be to first develop the grounds available at Shillong and Tura – the two zonal HQ of MCA.
A request has also been made to the Meghalaya government to allot land for construction of a cricket stadium and a positive response is expected from the government for one among few proposed sites identified in the outskirts of Shillong, Bhattacharjee said.
Mitra after inaugurating the Academy at 8.30 am will visit schools adopted by the MCA besides few centers in other districts.
