SHILLONG: Around 5000 people from the villages of South Garo Hills attended the Civic Action Programme (CAP) organised by the BSF in the border areas of Sibbari and Rongra on Friday.
The programme was conducted as a central plan to improve the quality of life and welfare of the border population, upgrade the existing infrastructure and create new avenues for bringing positive changes in the life of the people along the borders. Items like power tiller, syntax tanks with steel GI pipe, tullu pump set, furniture, sports items, education material to upgrade schools like chairs, tables, black board, umbrella etc. were distributed at Sibbari and Rongra.
The programme, chaired by IG, Meghalaya Frontier, Sudesh Kumar, was also attended by Nokmas of the villages of Chambalgiri, Bilkona, Rangasora, Benajuri, Dabram, Bhawanipur, Baghmara, Rongra among others. Prominent local leaders along with principals of all the schools were present in the event apart from the officials of the state administration.
While giving away the key of power tillers, the IG described “this as a key to prosperity”.
“The distribution of power tiller will help people in improving their agricultural activities and will definitely help in improving economic prosperity. Similarly up-gradation of school infrastructure will have lasting results as children are the future of the country,” Kumar said.
The meritorious students from these schools were also awarded.
Meanwhile, villagers of Rongra put forth their problems like electricity, improper water supply, poor condition of roads and non-availability of BSNL land lines before the IG, to which he assured them to refer these problems to the state government and BSNL authorities.
