JOWAI: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) and the Karbi-Anglong Students Association (KASA) will be holding a meeting today to discuss the problems faced by people residing along the Meghalaya – Assam border in Jaintia Hills and Karbi-Anglong District.

The decision to hold a joint meeting between the two Student bodies of the neigbouring District of Assam and Meghalaya was taken after the dismantling of a Boundary pillar erected at Zero Point bordering Karbi-Anglong of Assam and Khanduli village of Jaintia hills District.

The boundary pillar erected at Zero Point was uprooted and discarded at a place 1 km inside the border at Khanduli village.

It was also learnt that the KASA has denied its involvement in the illegal activities and blamed it on some unknown miscreants who has tried to create differences between the Khasi-Pnar and Karbi people living in the border area.

JSU President informed that the Student’s Organisation will be discussing the issues on maintaining peace and tranquility in the bordering area.

“They (KASA) will be arriving on Sunday and the meeting will be held at Orchid Inn”, Pale informed.

It may be mentioned that on Saturday, KSYC issued a bandh call to protest against the alleged encroachment of land in the district by the people of Meghalaya which saw the paralysis of normal life and some sporadic incidents in different parts of the district.

The outfit had alleged that Meghalaya government has set up police posts and schools in land belonging to Assam.
