MHA decision welcomed

The North East Support Centre and Helpline welcomed the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to book the racial discrimination against people from North East under Scheduled Caste and Tribes Prevention of Atrocity Act.

The MHA has served notice to all states and Union Territories to follow the instruction. The offenders of racial attack and discrimination could be imprisoned for up to five years with non-bailable warrants.

Accidents

A Maruti 800 coming from Mokyndeng went off the road and fell into a gorge after it skidded at Mulieh under Laskein Block, Jaintia Hills on Tuesday. In another incident , a TATA Xylo travelling towards Silchar from Shillong went off the road on a turning and fell into a gorge at Umtyra under Khliehrait Block, Jaintia Hills on Monday. No casualties have reported so far.

Truck looted

A truck bearing registration number RJ 29-2865 was looted by four unidentified miscreants while it was on its way to Guwahati from Shallang. The incident occurred while the truck was going through Nongdikain at around 11:30 PM.

Plantation drive

The National Cadet Corps (NCC), will organise a tree plantation programme at the AM Holiday Home, on Wednesday. GOC, 101 area Lt Gen Narula will address the cadets on the importance of planning trees.
