SHILLONG: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati has warned that Meghalaya may experience heavy downpour in the next 48 hours due to the advancement of southwest monsoon to the northeast including Meghalaya besides sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. It may be mentioned that monsoon has arrived in Meghalaya and the region on Wednesday, a day after it touched the southern shores in Kerala.

Speaking further the RMC weatherman said that the entire region got covered by Thursday as favorable conditions helped the advancement of monsoon into the region. The weatherman also informed that a cyclonic circulation lies in the region consisting of three to four states including their neighboring areas extending up to 2.1km above mean sea level. This has resulted in widespread rainfall in the northeastern states.

While informing that due to the timely arrival this year conditions are favorable for a good monsoon, he said that this year the arrival of monsoon is on time unlike last year when it was delayed by a week.
