SHILLONG: The State Government on Thursday felicitated Meghalaya’s Everest hero Gary Jarman Lamare at an official function here at the Secretariat with a citation and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.

Thirty-year-old Lamare achieved the landmark on May 25 after he scaled Mount Everest accompanied by a nine-member team of the Army Adventure Wing.

Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma and his Cabinet colleagues were full of praise for Lamare.

Earlier on Wednesday, Lamare was also felicitated jointly by the Shillong Cricket Association and the Meghalaya Cricket Association and by the Mait Shaphrang Movement for bringing laurels to the State.
