85 migrant workers detained

NONGPOH: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Nongpoh Circle on Friday detained 85 non-tribals for not possessing valid documents and work permit from Umbuda and Umdihar village, about 6 km from here.

The union detained 60 migrants from Umbuda who were engaged in the construction of a State Government-sponsored modern village while the rest were detained from Umdihar.

Lambok Rymbai, president, KSU Nongpoh Circle said that the workers were later deported back to Assam.
